An intention spoken out loudly or in the mind which carries great determination. A formal resolution is usually made at the beginning of a meditation session, for example:
- “For the next 30 minutes I am going to practise concentration meditation.”
- “For the next 30 minutes I am going to practise breath meditation, allowing thoughts to arise and pass with a gentle awareness of them.”
However, formal resolutions are extremely useful in many areas of life, not just in meditation.
To make a formal resolution, literally say the words you intend to come true, in your mind, or out loud, so you feel a sense of determination in your body. This is the sensation you get when you have decided you are definitely going to do something. A formal resolution generates that feeling which “seals in” the intention and makes it a lot more likely to manifest.
