kasina

An external object focused upon in concentration meditation, such as a coloured disc or candle flame. Sometimes practitioners close their eyes after staring at such an object for some time, so that they can see an afterimage of the object burned on their retina. This afterimage is then focused upon whereby it can transform into mind-made objects, often with quite spectacular effects. An example of such a practice is my iPhone Flashlight Afterimage Kasina meditation.
